International Women’s Day – Honoring Dr. Maya Angelou
Last week, March 8th, we celebrated International Women’s Day. On this day, I honor, celebrate and remember a great woman, Dr. Maya Angelou, of blessed memory.
I had the great pleasure of both meeting and photographing Maya. Here pictured is Maya and me! 🙂
I will always remember what she said to everyone that day in Minneapolis, (including me!) as we all started to bend to be at her level for the photograph.
“Stand Tall. Bow before no-one but God. Take my hand.”
I can hear her now in her gorgeous, kind, slow, comforting voice. Encouraging us to be our authentic selves. To stand tall against hatred and adversity. To come together as one community, united in friendship and love. Hold hands. Stand together. Fight hatred. Spread love. Only she was more eloquent with her speech, and has left a legacy of so many wonderful words/ quotes which continue to inspire me this day.
Thank you Maya Angelou. For your wisdom, your eloquence, your core values of decency and integrity. You are, and will remain, a role model to me, and in our world.
