National Small Business Week 2019
National Small Business Week
It’s time to celebrate National Small Business Week 2019! Did you know that for over 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration celebrates the impact of our nation’s small business owners for 1 week in the Spring? This year, we celebrate National Small Business Week 2019 from May 5th through May 11th. I just heard about this! Who knew?!? Such a wonderful way to celebrate the hard work of our small businesses.
What is defined as a small business?
The Office of Advocacy, within the Small Business Administration, defines a small business as an independent business having fewer than 500 employees. By that definition, small businesses comprise 99.7% of U.S. employer firms. Wow! 99.7%. That’s unbelievable. Please feel free to fact check. The source is: U.S. Census Bureau; Bureau of Labor Statistics, Small Business GDP: Update 2002-2010 www.sba.gov/advocacy/7540/42371.
Another fascinating statistic: women own close to 10 million American small businesses! Above all, our nation recognized that our record low unemployment success is, in large measure, due to small businesses creating 2 out of every 3 net new jobs in our economy. Small businesses, albeit “small,” actually have a HUGE impact on our national economic success.
Hats off to Robin Barron-Wickert, small business owner
How fortunate are we to have such an entrepreneurial spirit in our nation! And then, to have such wonderful women small business owners like Robin Barron-Wickert! Seen here in this photo, Robin is the owner of A Serene Salon, in Burnsville, MN. Robin has made me feel serene and my hair look gorgeous for over 20 years!
Robin is THE BEST hair stylist. She makes me look and feel like a million bucks! I walk out of her hair salon in much better shape than when I arrived. She is prompt, dependable, professional, fun to talk to- I do tell her everything! As a result of her work, I look beautiful! Every single time. Wow! I can’t thank her enough for her endless, tireless devotion to her business and to me.
Robin also promotes other business owners and helps them to grow their business. For example, she has referred me to her clients many times, and I have photographed her family as well. I love how she promote others. She is contributing to all of our successes as small business owners. Together, we are stronger business owners when we promote each other.
Gratitude
Thank you Robin! And.. thank you to all the small business owners providing outstanding service, profiting ourselves and our economy. Above all, with the 10 million of us women, specifically, and many of us who are also MOMS __as we are about to celebrate Mother’s day__we lift our nation up to thrive and be prosperous.
Thank you to our small businesses owners and to Mom’s everywhere!
